Israel unveils rail-mounted robot to guard borders, bases, and prisons

Israel’s Defense Ministry announced successful trials of a new rail-mounted robot designed to secure sensitive sites such as prisons, military bases, and border facilities.

Brig. Gen. Yehuda Al-Makiys highlighted the system’s durability and reliability, noting it can operate semi-autonomously for weeks or months with minimal maintenance, enhancing overall security.

Unlike drones or wheeled robots, the rail robot moves along fixed tracks installed on fences, walls, or border barriers and is powered by inductive charging, allowing continuous 24/7 operation without stopping to recharge.

During trials, the robot demonstrated capabilities such as remote detection of people and vehicles, automatic tracking, early warning, surveillance in poor visibility, and tools for remote response to security incidents, the Jerusalem Post has reported.

Officials emphasized that the robot will be part of a broader security network, integrating multiple technologies to strengthen defenses, marking a breakthrough in Israel’s efforts to counter both internal and external threats.
