Family of Mississippi university student found hanged pursue independent autopsy

The family of Demartravion “Trey” Reed, a 21-year-old Black student found hanging from a tree on Delta State University’s campus, is demanding transparency in the investigation into his death.

Police have preliminarily ruled it a suicide, though the case remains under review with state and local agencies involved.

Amid widespread skepticism and online speculation, the family’s attorney announced an independent investigation and autopsy, stressing the need for answers and possible campus surveillance footage, USA Today has reported.

Reed’s family described him as joyful and loving, saying they simply want clarity about what happened.
