Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has been permanently removed from prosecuting Donald Trump’s Georgia election interference case after the state Supreme Court refused to hear her appeal.
The decision upholds a ruling disqualifying Willis and her office over the “appearance of impropriety” from her past romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade.
The case now goes to Georgia’s Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council, which must appoint a new prosecutor who could pursue the charges, narrow them, or dismiss the case, Fox News has reported.
Trump and 18 others were indicted in 2023 under Georgia’s RICO law, though Trump’s status as sitting president makes prosecution unlikely.
