Canada’s Carney heads to Mexico to discuss trade before US trade deal review

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is visiting Mexico to strengthen trade ties and coordinate ahead of the 2026 USMCA review.

Carney will meet President Claudia Sheinbaum to discuss expanding bilateral trade, investment, and strategies for dealing with U.S. trade policies under president Donald Trump, including tariffs on steel and aluminum.

Mexico and Canada aim to maintain the free trade pact while boosting commerce between them, with Canadian companies already the largest foreign investors in Mexico’s mining sector, ABC News has reported.

The two-day visit includes one-on-one talks, a working lunch with cabinet officials, and a visit to the Canadian embassy.
