Several New York officials arrested in protest at Manhattan ICE office

Several New York elected officials, including City Comptroller Brad Lander, were arrested Thursday during a protest at a Manhattan immigration office, according to DHS and local reports.

Authorities said 71 people in total were arrested, among them two state senators and nine assembly members, after they demanded access to the building’s 10th-floor migrant holding facility to review conditions.

DHS accused Lander of obstructing law enforcement and refusing to leave until detainees were released.

All those arrested are expected to receive summonses and be released, ABC News has reported.

The protest came days after a federal judge ordered the government to improve conditions for migrants held at the facility.
