President Trump criticized Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Somalia on Thursday, following the House’s vote to table a resolution that would have formally reprimanded her.
Trump called Omar “terrible” and suggested she should be impeached, while disparaging Somalia for political instability, poverty, corruption, and violence.
The resolution, brought by Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) over a social media post by Omar, failed 214-213, with four Republicans joining Democrats to defeat it.
Omar thanked her colleagues for protecting First Amendment rights and preventing further censure, The Hill has reported.
Trump also repeated allegations about Omar’s personal life, questioning her marriage to her brother for U.S. citizenship.
