Gov. Newsom Signs ‘No Secret Police’ Act In Latest MAGA Rebuke

California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed two first-in-the-nation laws requiring ICE and other law enforcement in the state to be identifiable and unmasked, banning bounty hunters from immigration enforcement.

The move, framed as a pushback against Trump’s immigration crackdowns and masked ICE raids in Los Angeles, sparked sharp opposition from the Trump administration, which argued the measures endanger officers.

The laws, SB 627 and SB 805, take effect in 2026 and immediately are expected to face court challenges, Deadline has reported.
