Luigi Mangione Seeks Dismissal of Death Penalty and Charges

Luigi Mangione, 27, is accused of fatally shooting UnitedHealth executive Brian Thompson outside a Manhattan hotel last December.

He has pleaded not guilty and faces both federal and state murder charges, though a New York judge recently dismissed two terrorism-related counts against him.

Mangione’s lawyers are asking a federal judge to dismiss his indictment or bar prosecutors from seeking the death penalty, arguing that Attorney General Pam Bondi and other officials violated his rights with prejudicial statements and a staged “perp walk.”

They claim Bondi rushed the decision to pursue capital charges, abandoning prior protocols for reviewing such cases, Bloomberg has reported.

Prosecutors have until Oct. 31 to respond, and no trial dates have been set in either the federal or state case.
