Heavy rain east of Los Angeles triggered mudslides that damaged homes and trapped drivers in the San Bernardino Mountains.
Ten people were rescued from stranded vehicles on State Route 38, while a 2-year-old boy drowned after floodwaters swept his family’s car away in Barstow.
Mudslides affected Forest Falls, Oak Glen, and Potato Canyon, with one Forest Falls home buried under tree trunks.
The storm dumped nearly two inches of rain in just two hours, exacerbating areas weakened by past wildfires, the Associated Press has reported.
Authorities closed roads, assessed damage, and issued evacuation warnings as additional storms were forecast.
