Trump says he now thinks Ukraine can win back all territory taken by Russia

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Ukraine, with European and NATO support, could win back all its territory from Russia, marking a shift from his earlier suggestions that Kyiv might need to cede land for peace.

In a Truth Social post, he argued Russia is economically weakened and vulnerable, calling this the moment for Ukraine to act. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the remarks as a “big shift.”

Trump’s comments drew cautious optimism from allies, who saw them as stronger support for Ukraine, though U.S. officials stressed no immediate policy changes.

While Trump has previously floated land swaps, his latest position emphasized backing NATO arms sales and pressuring Russia economically.

Western leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, praised the move, while Sen. Lindsey Graham called it a “gamechanger,” NBC News has reported.

Still, officials noted Trump did not propose new U.S. sanctions or direct aid, leaving uncertainty about concrete next steps.
