The Trump administration is restricting Iranian diplomats visiting New York for the UN General Assembly from accessing wholesale stores like Costco or buying luxury items over $1,000, as well as high-end cars over $60,000, without prior approval.
Their movements are also limited to areas necessary for official UN business.
State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said the measures prevent Iranian elites from shopping while their citizens face poverty and shortages, reinforcing U.S. support for the Iranian people and maintaining American security, CNN has reported.
