A 911 outage affected multiple states for several hours due to fiber cuts in the telecommunications system, officials said.
Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves reported that the state’s 911 systems were impacted but were restored within about two hours.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency continues to monitor the situation.
In Louisiana, Orleans Parish Communication District Executive Director Karl Fasold said the fiber cut in Mississippi caused a 911 outage across most of Louisiana and Mississippi.
Fasold indicated there was no evidence the outage was malicious.
911 service in New Orleans was restored by late afternoon and functioning properly, ABC News has reported.
The Alabama 9-1-1 Board clarified that no outages were confirmed in their state despite some reports.
