Raynae Madison and her family discovered a 2.79-carat brown diamond at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas while visiting for her nephew’s birthday.
The family had brought shovels and screens to hunt for stones near the Prospector Trailhead.
Park staff confirmed the stone, named the William Diamond, has unique inclusions caused by plastic deformation during its formation, giving it its brown color.
The diamond is the third-largest found in the park this year, following a 2.30-carat stone in July and behind the 3.81-carat Duke Diamond found in May.
Crater of Diamonds State Park spans 800 acres, attracts over 100,000 visitors annually, and has yielded more than 75,000 diamonds since 1906, CBS News has reported.
Visitors often spend days searching, such as a New York City woman who found a 2.3-carat diamond for her engagement ring after three weeks of hunting.
