A mass shooting in Southport, North Carolina, left three dead and five injured after suspect Nigel Edge, 40, allegedly opened fire from a boat at the American Fish Company waterfront bar.
Police said the attack was “highly premeditated,” with Edge targeting the location before fleeing, and later being apprehended by the U.S. Coast Guard on Oak Island.
Edge, who identifies as a combat veteran claiming PTSD, faces three counts of first-degree murder, five counts of attempted murder, and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
Victims included out-of-town vacationers, with at least one hospitalized in critical condition, and officials continue to investigate the crime scene, the Associated Press has reported.
Edge is being held without bond and is scheduled for his first court appearance on Monday, while authorities are still gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
