Suspect held after allegedly firing from boat into waterfront bar in North Carolina

Three people were killed and five others wounded Saturday night in Southport, N.C., when a gunman opened fire from a boat at the American Fish Company, a waterfront bar.

Police identified the suspect as 41-year-old Nigel Edge, a decorated Marine veteran formerly known as Sean Debevoise, and arrested him on murder charges after he fled the scene by boat.

Authorities believe the attack was premeditated but that Edge acted alone.

Many victims were tourists, officials said, with one in critical condition, NPR has reported.

Edge, who previously wrote about being severely wounded in Iraq, is being held without bond and is set to appear in court Monday.

The bar has closed indefinitely, and police are urging witnesses to come forward.
