President Donald Trump announced he would send troops to Portland, Oregon, claiming the move was necessary to protect ICE facilities from “domestic terrorists” and Antifa.
He authorized “full force, if necessary,” but offered no details on timing or which troops would be deployed, and the White House has not issued a statement.
The announcement comes amid heightened tensions following conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s killing and Trump’s broader campaign against what he calls the “radical left.”
Portland’s ICE facility has been a frequent protest site, sometimes marked by violent clashes, Euro News has reported.
Trump has previously deployed National Guard and Marines to other cities and suggested similar actions for Chicago and Baltimore.
Meanwhile, Tennessee’s governor confirmed 150 National Guard troops will be sent to Memphis to help fight crime.
