President Donald Trump confirmed he will attend a large gathering of senior military leaders on Tuesday at Quantico Marine Corps Base, organized by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
Trump described the event as a morale-boosting meeting focused on military successes and “esprit de corps.”
Hundreds of top generals and admirals worldwide were summoned without prior details, though officials say Hegseth intends to showcase accomplishments and outline his vision for the Defense Department.
The unusual assembly comes as Hegseth pushes staffing cuts and rebrands the Pentagon as the “Department of War,” NBC News has reported.
It also coincides with looming concerns over a possible government shutdown, with Trump set to meet congressional leaders on Monday to address the Sept. 30 funding deadline.
