Philippines hit by 6.9 magnitude earthquake, dozens dead

A powerful 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck central Philippines late Tuesday, killing at least 26 people and injuring over 140.

The shallow quake hit near Bogo City in Cebu province, causing widespread damage, power outages, and panic.

Buildings, including churches and a sports complex, were destroyed, and landslides buried homes in mountain villages.

Authorities briefly issued and later lifted a tsunami warning, the DW has reported.

The disaster follows a deadly storm that killed 27 in the region days earlier, with officials warning of aftershocks and a rising death toll as rescue efforts continue.
