A Virginia court heard that Shotsie Michael Buck-Hayes allegedly set Danville City Council member Lee Vogler on fire in July, accusing him of having an affair with his wife.
Prosecutors say Buck-Hayes poured gasoline on Vogler at his office before igniting him, leaving Vogler with severe burns to 60% of his body.
Witnesses testified seeing the attack and its aftermath, while Vogler’s wife described his ongoing hospital treatment, which has included multiple skin grafts.
Buck-Hayes, originally from Devon, England, was arrested shortly after fleeing the scene and now faces charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated malicious wounding, the Daily Mail has reported.
His wife had filed for divorce weeks before the attack. A GoFundMe has raised over $160,000 to support Vogler’s recovery.
