Trump says $500m deal reached with Harvard to settle dispute

President Donald Trump announced that his administration had reached a tentative $500m settlement with Harvard University after accusing it of civil rights violations against Jewish and Israeli students.

Trump said the deal, still not finalized, would also involve Harvard operating trade schools focused on AI and other fields.

The announcement follows a federal judge’s ruling that the administration unlawfully cut $2.2bn in research funding to Harvard, marking a legal win for the university.

The administration has targeted several universities over issues ranging from pro-Palestinian protests to diversity policies, with Harvard facing the largest proposed settlement compared to Columbia’s $200m and Brown’s $50m, The Guardian has reported.
