Federal immigration officials are preparing to deploy agents to Portland after escalating attacks on ICE personnel and facilities, which they attribute to Antifa-linked groups.
Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons said officers face nightly confrontations involving sticks, bats, shields, and chemical grenades, and called for local support.
The warnings follow a Sept. 24 attack on an ICE facility in Dallas that killed two detainees and the shooter.
President Trump announced plans to send 200 National Guard troops to Portland, prompting a federal lawsuit from Oregon and criticism from Governor Tina Kotek and Mayor Keith Wilson, who said the city can handle its own public safety, Fox News has reported.
Officials are holding off on deployment while assessing Portland’s response, but ICE remains prepared to act to protect its personnel.
