Two killed, hundreds arrested in Morocco protests rocking the nation

Two people were killed and over 400 arrested during youth-led protests in southern Morocco after demonstrators tried to storm a police station, authorities said.

The protests, organised online by the GenZ 212 group, demand reforms in health and education while criticizing billions spent on World Cup preparations.

Clashes turned violent on the fourth night, with cars burned, shops looted, and security forces and civilians injured.

While the group maintains it seeks peaceful protest, authorities reported widespread vandalism across cities including Agadir, Ait Amira, and Oujda, Al-Jazeera has reported.

The unrest highlights deep social and regional inequalities in Morocco despite rapid development.
