Police raid Dali exhibition in Italy, say works on display were fake

Italian art police raided a Salvador Dalí exhibition in Parma, seizing 21 works—including tapestries, drawings, and engravings—suspected of being forgeries.

The exhibition, titled “Salvador Dalí: Between Art and Myth,” features around 80 pieces and had previously been displayed in Rome earlier this year.

Authorities acted after the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation raised concerns and identified “anomalies” in the artworks.

The Carabinieri stressed that the works are only presumed fake at this stage, and the presumption of innocence applies until a final verdict is reached, NBC News has reported.

Italy’s specialized art crime unit has previously uncovered large-scale forgery networks involving major modern and contemporary artists, including Dalí, Picasso, Banksy, and Warhol.
