Gateway Church founder Robert Preston Morris, 64, was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to five counts of child sexual abuse in Oklahoma.
He received a 10-year suspended sentence, including six months in jail, for abusing a 12-year-old girl in 1982 while working as a traveling evangelist.
The victim, Cindy Clemishire, said justice had “finally been served” and urged other survivors to speak out.
Oklahoma’s attorney general condemned Morris for exploiting his role as a pastor, Axios has reported.
Morris, who founded Gateway Church in 2000 and once served on Donald Trump’s evangelical advisory board, must register as a sex offender, serve supervised probation in Texas, and pay restitution and incarceration costs.
