U.S. forces carried out another strike on a vessel allegedly carrying illegal drugs off Venezuela’s coast, President Donald Trump announced Sunday, warning that traffickers may soon face action on land.
Speaking at Naval Station Norfolk, Trump praised the Navy for targeting what he called “cartel terrorists,” claiming the latest attack was part of a broader campaign to stop drug smuggling.
The strike — the fourth or fifth in recent weeks — reportedly killed four people, though U.S. claims that the targets were drug traffickers have not been independently verified.
Russia condemned the attacks as a dangerous escalation and pledged support for Venezuela, while U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth insisted he had full authorization for the operations, Al-Jazeera has reported.
Trump said the military buildup in the Caribbean has “stopped drugs from coming in” and suggested a “phase two” could soon target operations on land.
