Shootings at South Carolina State University leave 1 dead, another injured

Two separate shootings at South Carolina State University during homecoming weekend left one woman dead and a man injured, authorities said.

The incidents occurred Saturday evening, Oct. 4, prompting a campus-wide lockdown. State officials said the shootings do not appear to be connected, and investigations are ongoing.

The injured man remains hospitalized, while the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division continues to gather information, USA Today has reported.

U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace expressed condolences to the victims’ families and the university community, calling the events “heartbreaking.”
