Canadian PM Carney visits Trump

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to meet President Donald Trump in the Oval Office Tuesday amid strained U.S.-Canada relations caused by trade disputes and tariff threats.

The visit comes ahead of the 2026 review of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), which is vital to Canada as more than 77% of its exports go to the U.S.

While Canada hopes to ease sector-specific tariffs, such as the 50% duties on steel and aluminum, expectations for major concessions are low.

The tensions have fueled Canadian public frustration, with businesses and citizens altering travel and investment plans in response to Trump’s trade policies, the Associated Press has reported.

Despite the friction, Canada and the U.S. remain deeply interconnected, with extensive trade, energy, defense, and cultural ties, making any resolution critical for both economies.
