Israel and Hamas agree to first phase of Gaza ceasefire plan

Israel and Hamas have agreed to the first phase of a U.S.-brokered ceasefire that includes the release of all hostages in Gaza, an Israeli troop withdrawal to a designated point, and the release of some Palestinian prisoners.

President Donald Trump announced the deal, saying hostages could be freed as early as Monday, though key issues like Hamas disarmament and Gaza’s future governance remain unresolved.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hailed the agreement as a “diplomatic success and a national and moral victory.”

Hamas expressed gratitude to Trump and mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, CNN has reported.

Celebrations erupted in both Gaza and Israel, though many residents remained cautious that the fragile deal could still collapse.
