MTG calls on Speaker Johnson to bring House back to DC

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene broke with GOP leaders on Wednesday, urging Speaker Mike Johnson to reconvene the House amid the ongoing government shutdown and rising tensions over health care policy.

In an interview with CNN, Greene warned that Republicans risk voter backlash if they fail to address surging health insurance costs tied to the expiration of Affordable Care Act subsidies.

She criticized both parties — blaming Democrats for creating the crisis and Republicans for lacking solutions — and called Johnson’s decision to keep the House out of session a “mistake.”

Greene’s remarks deepen her rift with GOP leadership as she continues to take controversial stances, including opposition to U.S. aid for Ukraine and criticism of Israel’s war in Gaza, CNN has reported.

While reaffirming her support for Donald Trump, Greene said she was focused on protecting her constituents from skyrocketing health care premiums and warned that “nobody is winning” the political fight over the shutdown.
