Floods trap people in cars in Spain’s Catalonia region

Severe floods hit northeastern Catalonia, Spain, on Sunday, trapping people in vehicles and homes after torrential rains drenched the region, following similar downpours that caused chaos on Ibiza.

Videos showed torrents of brown water sweeping through streets and submerging cars, while local streams and ravines overflowed, especially in towns like Santa Barbara and Godall.

The national weather agency issued a red alert for Tarragona, warning of up to 180 millimeters of rain in 12 hours, with Mas de Barberans recording nearly 272 millimeters over the weekend.

Officials described the situation as chaotic, with debris and vehicles swept throughout towns, though thankfully no injuries or missing persons were reported, France 24 has reported.

Emergency services warned residents to remain cautious as the floods continued to impact local communities.
