Zimbabwe lawmaker and poet dies after his car hits an elephant

Zimbabwean opposition MP Desire Moyo has died after the vehicle he was traveling in struck an elephant on the Bulawayo-Gweru highway.

The accident, which occurred early Friday, also injured four other MPs.

Moyo, a member of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) and a poet celebrated for his contributions to the arts, died instantly from his injuries.

Colleagues described the crash as horrific, noting that the elephant struck the vehicle after the initial impact, the BBC has reported.

Tributes have poured in, praising Moyo as a dedicated lawmaker, educator, and arts advocate, while the injured MPs are receiving treatment in hospital.
