A small plane crashed onto Route 195 in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, Monday morning, killing a husband and wife and shutting down both sides of the highway for hours.
The victims, 68-year-old Thomas Perkins and 66-year-old Agatha Perkins from Middletown, Rhode Island, were found in the fuselage of their Socata TBM-700 aircraft, which burst into flames in the median.
A woman driving on the highway was struck by part of the wreckage and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The plane had departed from New Bedford Regional Airport en route to Kenosha, Wisconsin, and the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash, though it is unclear if weather from a nor’easter played a role, CBS News has reported.
The Perkins were well-known in their community for their work with Kirby-Perkins Construction and contributions to local schools.
