A 42-year-old man has died from injuries sustained in a Sept. 29 assault at the Gish VTA Light Rail Station in San Jose, prompting authorities to investigate the case as a homicide.
The suspect, 23-year-old Brandon Fryshaw, was arrested shortly after the attack and is also linked to a second assault at the Saint James VTA Light Rail Station.
Fryshaw was initially booked on attempted murder charges, and the case has been referred to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office for review.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office highlighted the incident as part of its commitment to addressing violent crimes, even as overall violent crime in the county has declined, Fox News has reported.
The department’s 2024 annual report shows lower-than-average violent and property crime rates compared with the California state averages, along with improvements in response times, and use-of-force reductions.
