A Colorado driver survived a 300-foot plunge off U.S. Highway 550 in Ouray last week, sustaining only minor injuries.
The Oct. 9 crash sent the pickup truck into the Uncompahgre River Gorge, and rescuers from Ouray Mountain Rescue, the fire department, and EMS rigged a rope system to reach and evacuate the driver.
Photos showed the mangled vehicle and the driver walking up the steep ledge with assistance.
The “Million Dollar Highway” is notorious for narrow lanes, sharp turns, and dangerous drops, earning a reputation as one of America’s most perilous roads, Fox News has reported.
Locals and online commenters called the driver’s survival miraculous, noting the highway had also seen two fatal crashes over the summer.
