Russia launches deadly wave of drone, missile attacks across Ukraine

Russia launched large-scale overnight attacks on Kyiv, killing at least two people and injuring five, including a toddler, officials said Wednesday.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported waves of drone and missile strikes that caused fires and destruction across multiple districts.

In the Dniprovskiy area, one person was killed and 10 rescued after drone debris struck a residential tower.

Another person died in the Dnipro district, where a building caught fire and 10 residents were evacuated.

Fires also broke out in the Pechersky and Darnytsky districts due to falling missile and drone fragments.

Explosions were reported across at least four districts, shattering windows and damaging homes.

Attacks also hit other regions: in Kharkiv, drones damaged railway infrastructure and cars, while in Odesa’s Izmail city, port and energy facilities were struck.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged President Donald Trump to send long-range Tomahawk missiles to strengthen Ukraine’s position in cease-fire negotiations.

However, Trump backed away from the idea after a recent White House meeting with Zelenskyy, following a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Al-Jazeera has reported.

The anticipated Trump-Putin summit was later postponed, with Trump saying he did not want to have a “wasted meeting.”
