Twenty-three people were arrested in Dublin following a second night of violent protests outside a hotel housing asylum seekers, Irish police reported.
The unrest began after a 26-year-old man, a foreign national who had been issued a deportation order, was arrested over the alleged sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl.
Demonstrators threw missiles and fireworks at officers, resulting in two injuries, with police describing the disorder as mostly caused by young adult males and teenagers.
Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan praised the police response and vowed that those responsible would face prosecution, Al-Jazeera has reported.
While far-right politics remain marginal in Ireland, public concern over migration has grown amid record asylum arrivals, echoing prior unrest in 2023 linked to violent attacks by migrants.
