King Charles has become the first British monarch since the Reformation to pray publicly with a Pope, marking a historic moment of Christian unity.
During a state visit to the Vatican, he joined Pope Leo XIV in an ecumenical service in the Sistine Chapel, accompanied by the Queen and senior clergy from both churches.
The visit, coinciding with the Papal Jubilee, included an exchange of gifts and mutual honours between the King and the Pope.
The two leaders prayed together under Michelangelo’s Last Judgement, symbolizing renewed ties between the Church of England and the Roman Catholic Church, The Telegraph has reported.
The King’s visit will conclude with a reception at the Pontifical Beda College, highlighting his ongoing commitment to interfaith dialogue.
