Pelosi Says Police May Arrest Federal Agents Who Violate California Law

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Kevin Mullin warned that local authorities in California could arrest federal agents if they violate state law during upcoming immigration raids in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The warning comes as Border Patrol agents are expected in the city, following President Trump’s repeated calls to deploy federal forces.

The strategy was proposed by San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins, who cited past incidents of federal agents using excessive force in Los Angeles and Chicago.

Jenkins said local police could review footage of any misconduct, identify the agents involved, and seek judicial warrants to prosecute them, the New York Times has reported.

She emphasized that federal agents would not be above the law in San Francisco, though she does not expect public arrests on the streets.
