Security at California Coast Guard base opens fire on U-Haul truck posing ‘direct threat’

Coast Guard personnel opened fire Thursday night on a U-Haul truck outside Coast Guard Base Alameda after the driver ignored multiple commands to stop and drove erratically toward the base.

Video shows the truck reversing toward security personnel before officers fired several rounds of live ammunition; no Coast Guard personnel were injured.

The driver fled the scene, and two men, including the suspected driver, later sought treatment for gunshot wounds at local hospitals.

The incident followed a protest outside the base attempting to block U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents, which required California Highway Patrol officers to intervene, Fox News has reported.

The base had been planned as a staging area for federal troops whose deployment to San Francisco was postponed by President Trump after discussions with Mayor Daniel Lurie.
