Vance slams Israel’s parliament vote on West Bank annexation

U.S. Vice President JD Vance sharply criticized Israel’s parliament for a vote on West Bank annexation, calling it an “insult” and a “stupid political stunt,” reaffirming the Trump administration’s opposition to annexation.

Vance’s remarks came as part of a U.S. push to maintain momentum on the Israel-Hamas ceasefire, alongside the opening of a civilian-military coordination center in southern Israel with 200 U.S. troops.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio is also visiting Israel to support stabilization efforts in Gaza and coordinate with regional allies to train a Palestinian security force independent of Hamas.

The annexation bill, symbolically approved 25-24, has uncertain prospects in Israel’s 120-seat parliament, and Netanyahu could delay or block it, NPR has reported.

Both Vance and Rubio emphasized that annexation threatens peace efforts and is opposed by the Trump administration.
