Former Tennessee state Rep. Robin Smith has been sentenced to eight months in prison for honest services wire fraud related to a taxpayer-funded mail business scheme.
Smith, who cooperated under a plea deal, testified against former House Speaker Glen Casada and his chief of staff Cade Cothren, helping secure their convictions.
The scheme involved a fictitious company, Phoenix Solutions, which received state funds while concealing the involvement of Casada, Cothren, and Smith, the AP has reported.
Smith, who resigned in 2022, acknowledged betraying public trust and must report to prison by January 5.
