Man shot 10 times protecting high school cheerleader who died after shooting at bonfire

Kimber Mills, an 18-year-old high school cheerleader from Pinson, Alabama, was fatally shot at a bonfire after a confrontation with 27-year-old Steven Tyler Whitehead.

A man, Silas McCay, was shot 10 times while trying to protect Kimber and his friends, but he is expected to recover.

Whitehead has been charged with three counts of attempted murder and is held on a $180,000 bond, Fox News has reported.

Kimber, who planned to attend the University of Alabama in 2026 to become a nurse, was remembered by friends and family for her bright personality and the impact she had on those around her.
