Newark halts flights over staffing crisis

The FAA has issued a ground stop at Newark Airport due to severe staffing shortages caused by the government shutdown, affecting air traffic controllers and TSA officers who are required to work without pay.

The shutdown, now in its 29th day, has led to widespread flight delays and cancellations nationwide, with absenteeism and fatigue raising safety concerns.

Newark, already struggling with staffing and technology issues, has been particularly hard hit, with delays averaging 40 minutes and maximum delays reaching 87 minutes, the Daily Mail has reported.

Transportation officials and union leaders warn that prolonged shutdown conditions increase stress and the risk of human error, urging Congress to end the impasse.
