A U.S. military strike killed two people aboard an alleged drug-smuggling vessel in the Eastern Pacific, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced.
The strike, described as a “lethal kinetic strike,” targeted a boat in international waters said to be operated by a “Designated Terrorist Organization” carrying narcotics along a known trafficking route.
Hegseth released video of the strike but did not provide the exact location or evidence supporting the trafficking claims.
This was at least the 16th such strike since President Trump returned to office, which have collectively killed at least 66 people. NBC News has reported.
Civil liberties groups have challenged the legality of the strikes, arguing they target civilians without a formal declaration of war.
