A UPS cargo plane crashed and exploded while taking off from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport in Kentucky, killing at least seven people and injuring 11, authorities reported.
The crash occurred around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday as the plane departed for Honolulu from UPS Worldport.
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said 16 families have reported loved ones missing, and first responders continued searching for additional victims.
Emergency officials initially issued a 5-mile shelter-in-place order, later reduced to a quarter-mile radius as air quality was monitored, the AP has reported.
Video footage showed the plane lifting slightly before exploding, with flames, smoke, and damage to nearby buildings; four of the fatalities were on the ground, not on the aircraft.
