The death toll from a UPS plane crash near Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport has risen to 13, officials said Thursday.
The McDonnell Douglas MD-11 freighter, UPS Flight 2976, crashed on Tuesday while en route to Honolulu after its left engine detached, sparking a large fireball.
Victims include the plane’s three crew members—Capt. Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Capt. Dana Diamond—and civilians on the ground, including Louisnes Fedon and his 3-year-old granddaughter, Kimberly Asa.
Authorities continue to search through debris, with nine people still reported missing, while the NTSB has recovered black box data and the main engine component, ABC News has reported.
Preliminary investigations are ongoing, with federal agencies including the FBI and EPA assisting, though no probable cause has yet been determined.
