Jurors acquitted Sean Dunn, a D.C. resident dubbed the “sandwich guy,” of assaulting a federal officer after he threw a Subway sandwich at Border Patrol Officer Greg Lairmore.
The jury deliberated for two days before finding Dunn not guilty, reportedly eating sandwiches for lunch during deliberations.
Dunn, a former Justice Department paralegal, faced only a misdemeanor after a grand jury declined to pursue more serious charges.
The defense argued the incident was harmless, noting the sandwich remained wrapped and unharmed after hitting Lairmore’s vest, NBC News has reported.
Dunn’s case became a local symbol of resistance to the Trump administration, while prosecutors maintained that no assault on law enforcement should be tolerated.
