Israel has confirmed the recovery of the remains of Hadar Goldin, a soldier killed in Gaza in 2014, ending an 11-year effort by his family to bring him home.
Goldin, 23, was killed just hours after a ceasefire began during the 2014 Israel-Hamas war, and evidence found in a tunnel had long confirmed his death.
His remains were the last from that conflict still held in Gaza.
The return, part of a U.S.-brokered truce, comes amid ongoing tensions and efforts to recover other hostages’ bodies from Gaza, the AP has reported.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the move ends years of “great agony” for Goldin’s family, who will now be able to give him a proper burial.
