More than 2,200 flights canceled Sunday amid nationwide air travel disruption

Nationwide flight disruptions continued into Sunday following thousands of cancellations and delays caused by the ongoing government shutdown.

As of 4:30 p.m. ET, over 2,200 flights were canceled and around 7,500 delayed, due to staffing shortages at air traffic control towers and centers.

Saturday saw 1,521 cancellations and more than 6,400 delays, exceeding Friday’s disruptions.

The FAA reported over 40 staffing triggers at facilities nationwide, with major delays expected to persist, ABC News has reported.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy noted that international flights would not be cut to comply with international agreements.
