Two Major League Baseball Players Charged in Sports Betting and Money Laundering

Cleveland Guardians pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis L. Ortiz have been indicted for allegedly manipulating bets on individual pitches as part of a gambling scheme.

Federal prosecutors in Brooklyn charged them with multiple conspiracies, including wire fraud, bribery, and money laundering.

Ortiz was arrested in Boston, while Clase remains at large, CBS Sports has reported.

Prosecutors claim Clase’s actions from May 2023 and Ortiz’s from June 2025 helped bettors profit by hundreds of thousands of dollars through inside information, with both players allegedly receiving bribes.

If convicted on all counts, they face up to 65 years in prison, and both MLB and the Guardians say they are cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.
